TRAX Tracking Glossary: Courier Terms Explained

A tracking page throws a lot of industry shorthand at you at once. Here's what the recurring terms actually mean, independent of any one status update.

Consignment Number / AWB

The single code TRAX's system searches by. AWB stands for Air Waybill, a term carried over from air-freight logistics even for surface shipments; on TRAX and its co-branded Sonic network, the two labels point to the same code.

Booked

A digital record exists, but the parcel hasn't been physically scanned into the network yet. This happens the moment a merchant generates a shipping label, which can be hours before a rider actually collects the box.

Line-Haul

The long-distance truck leg between cities, inside a sealed container. No scans happen mid-route, which is why tracking can go quiet for a stretch without anything being wrong.

Sorting Hub

A regional facility where inbound parcels get re-sorted onto the next vehicle toward their destination city. Each hub pass is usually its own scan event.

Out for Delivery

The parcel has left the local facility with a rider assigned to your address today. It doesn't guarantee a specific hour, just that today's the day.

Exception

A catch-all status for anything that stopped a normal handover: a wrong address, an unreachable phone, a refused delivery. It needs a human follow-up, not just patience.

Returned to Shipper (RTS)

After repeated failed delivery attempts, the parcel gets routed back to the sender instead of retried indefinitely. Once this status appears, contacting the merchant is usually faster than the courier.

Cash on Delivery (COD)

Payment collected by the rider at handover instead of online at checkout. Standard practice across Pakistani courier networks is full payment before the package is opened.

Proof of Delivery (POD)

The signature, photo, or recipient name logged at the moment of handover. It's what customer care checks first when a status says Delivered but nothing arrived.

Chargeable Weight

Whichever is higher: the parcel's actual scale weight, or its volumetric (dimensional) weight calculated from its size. A large, light box can cost more than its bathroom-scale weight would suggest.

Terms That Are TRAX-Specific

One term worth calling out separately: if a dispatch message says Sonic instead of TRAX, that's not a different courier. TRAX's tracking runs on the same underlying system and corporate helpline under both names, so any AWB works the same way in the search box above regardless of which brand name appears on your receipt.
